Harris Irwin Architects is pleased to unveil its design for a new luxury 60-bedroom care home in Surrey.
Planning permission for the home, which we have designed on behalf of long-standing client Perseus Land & Development and Barchester Healthcare, has been approved and construction work is set to begin early in 2022.
This will involve the demolition of an existing care home in the historic town of Shalford, near Guildford, and its replacement with a modern, purpose-built home which will provide accommodation for 60 residents.
This will include people with dementia, offering a dementia friendly environment utilising best practice design. Facilities will include a hair and beauty salon, cinema and café/restaurant, terraces, within tree-lined landscaped gardens.
The Harris Irwin design references the existing building, using some of the arts and crafts architectural detailing as key features in a more interpretation.
Lead Architect Rob McCartney said: “We were delighted to get planning permission for this exciting scheme and are now looking forward to working with our partners Perseus and Barchester to bring the new, attractive home to fruition.
“During the design stage we were conscious of the history of the town and surrounding area and the new building draws influence from the local character using period arts and crafts architectural detailing.
“This will include reusing the beautiful stained glass from the current building and incorporating it in the new home.”
